President's Message
Dear Garden Club Members,
I am very happy to welcome you to the 2008-2009 garden club year.
When the page turns to January, the Acton Garden Club will begin
celebrating its Diamond Jubilee! What a milestone! An exciting assortment
of events is planned for 2009. The first two are included with the
fabulous array of programs in this yearbook. Our general meeting programs
explore the areas of landscape design, horticulture, environmental
concerns and floral design. Horticulture Study Group, Floral Design
Study Group, and Junior Gardeners continue to have exciting programs.
The challenge to expand your horizons or to expand the horizons of
someone else continues. Within the covers of these pages, you will find
many opportunities to help you do just that!
Opportunities abound for us to learn and to share our knowledge.
State, regional and national garden club activities are plentiful - from
conferences to seminars to study schools. Look beyond the program
section of the yearbook for their websites which give additional details.
National Garden Clubs is sponsoring a membership competition
among the states. The state with the highest percentage increase in
membership will have a canna cultivar named after it. Let’s join in the
competition. With our outstanding programs and the wonderful people
in the Acton Garden Club, we should be able to help the cause. Why not
invite a guest to a meeting?
The Yearbook Committee, led by Joan Yatteau, toiled many hours
compiling and proofreading all the information given to them by the
various chairmen. They researched the historical
tidbits and double-checked the membership
information. Please join me in thanking
Kathy Burke, Susanne Fuller, Virginia Hahn,
Phyllis McDonough, Janet Richards, and
Judy Shuppert for all their time and efforts;
and in thanking the people responsible for
organizing all these great opportunities.
Expanding horizons together,
Maureen Christmas, President
